IT services are the application of business and technical expertise to enable organizations to create, manage, and optimize or access business information and processes. This expertise can be segmented into different types of skills, such as design, development, and execution. Customers come to IT service providers because they don't want to have to worry about infrastructure management (hardware, software, employees, data, changes, etc.). They want to pay a single price for a service and have the provider take care of it for them.
They also want to transfer the risk to the provider. When something breaks, they want to be able to call someone who will quickly work on their behalf to resolve it. Common IT services include email and collaboration, desktop services, security, virtual machine hosting, and telecommunications. Telecom services provide customers with phones (on their desk or in their pocket) and manage dial tone for the phone to work (or manage the contract with the mobile service provider).
They also manage moves, adds, changes, phone jack installations, provide support and repair services, conference calls, etc.
